Yellow Gazania

Like its companion, Orange Gazania, this painting began in my own garden in 2025.

What caught me with this particular bloom was the transition in the petals. The way the colour moves from a deep, warm yellow at the base out to a soft, almost white edge. It’s a subtle shift, but it gives the petals a real sense of light and form, as if they’re glowing from within rather than simply being yellow.

Gazanias are so generous in the Cape Winelands garden. They open easily and hold their colour beautifully, and this one in particular felt worth slowing down for. Painting that gradual fade from gold to white was a quiet challenge I enjoyed working through, layer by layer.

Together with Orange Gazania, these two paintings capture two very different moods from the same flower. One bold and warm, the other soft and luminous.
