Pink Peony

Pink Peony was my first attempt at painting this flower, long before Angel Peony or Peonies with Feathers and Gold. I was drawn to the rich contrast between the soft pink of the petals and a deep, dark background, and I wanted to push myself on composition, choosing an angle that felt a little more dynamic than simply centering the bloom.

Looking back, this painting feels like the beginning of a thread that has run through my work ever since. Peonies have a way of drawing me back, again and again, and I can trace a clear line from this early piece to the more ambitious peony paintings I have done since.
