Angel Peony

Angel Peony was a deliberate technical challenge. I wanted to push myself to paint something highly detailed, capturing not just the colour of the peony but the delicate, almost feathery quality of the petals and that faint translucency you only really notice when you look closely.

Working at this scale gave me room to build up layer after layer, moving from the cool, soft outer petals through to the warm, golden centre. It took real patience to get the transitions right, especially in the whites, where the slightest shift in tone changes how the light seems to move across the surface.

This is one of the paintings I am most proud of. I documented much of the process in timelapse, which you can find on my social media if you would like to see how it came together layer by layer. In person, the flower has a presence that is difficult to capture in a photograph. It genuinely seems to lift off the canvas.

At 91cm by 91cm, Angel Peony is a striking statement piece, well suited to a space where it can be seen and felt at scale.
